Beijing Olympic Games (1 août 2008 – 31 août 2008)

Description:

The opportunity to host the Olympic Games is a huge honor, one which greatly impacted China’s standing as a globally recognized power. Following centuries of isolationist policy in China, the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008 were an integral part in the development of China’s “soft power”, or ability to influence other nations through strategy and reputation rather than force. The relationships fostered with other nations through interaction at the Beijing Games, both political and economic, lead China into an era of globalization and mass economic growth. China gained international credibility and recognition as the first developing nation to successfully organize the Olympics, and garnered respect from other world powers as the top gold-medal earner of the Games.
