Failure to desegregate Albany, Georgia cause MLK and the SCLC to turn their attention to Birmingham. Their new campaign focused on desegregating the downtown stores, fair hiring practices, and reopening public parks.

Name one major effect.
The Birmingham protests led to an outbreak of mass demonstrations throughout the US and the march on Washington. This also caused MLK to write Letters from Birmingham Jail, and increased attention towards the racial segregation in the South. Furthermore, Bull Connor was ousted from his office.
