Description:
- beginning in Florence in 1570's, a circle/association of scholars twho met to discuss literature, science, and the arts.
- very interested in Ancient Greece, especially thier dramas.
they are the reason that opera became a thing!
one of the members, Giulio Caccini, developed a new style of accompanied solo singing, now referred to as monody.
another member, Girolamo Mei, had edited several Greek dramas, and believed that they were entirely sung. also believed that greek music consisted of a single melody, sung with or without accompaniment.
