Industrial Revolution (1 janv. 1750 – 16 déc. 1850)

Description:

the Industrial Revolution was time period in which western countries modernized and and had new ways of producing goods. For example people were now using the factory system instead of the domestic system. The Domestic System was when people were worked out of their own homes and got paid for each product they made, not by the hour. The Factory system moved all the workers into the city making it extremely crowded and unsanitary. There could be multiple families living in just one room. People often got diseases from unkempt conditions they were in. The Factory System was also cheaper because machines were made, making the production of goods cheaper, therefore more people could buy the goods. However, the working conditions were not good, especially for children. Because they were so small, it was useful to have them in a factory because they could fit their hands into the machines. They often got hurt or killed from unfortunate accidents during work and were not compensated. Some machines that they could have gotten their hands stuck were looms, or in chimneys while cleaning them. Even though some parts of the Industrial Revolution were bad, some good things cam out of it, like new machines and different forms of transportation. For example the railroads and steam engines. The railroads allowed people to travel at a faster rate and longer distance than ever before. The steam engine was the energy source that allowed the trains to run for long periods of time. Sewage systems were also created to keep the cities cleaner. After an outbreak of cholera, Dr. John Snow realized it was coming from the water, and the government took the handle off the pump and created the new brick sewer systems. Education reforms for child laborers also came along. Now every child would have some form of education. Even though the Industrial Revolution created many problems, the things we have today wouldn't have been possible without it.
