The Roman Republic (1 janv. 509 av. J.-C. – 1 janv. 27 av. J.-C.)
Description:
Two people were in charge of the new republic. They were annually elected officials called consuls. They also were the commanders of the army. There also were senators that were voted into power by the people. New republic politics started a long struggle between the patricians (upper class) and the plebeians (the common people). During the late republic, Rome’s government slowly began to crumble because of the growing empire. It began an era of “internal turmoil and violence.”
