Spanish Civil War (17 juill. 1936 – 1 avr. 1939)

Description:

The war was fought between loyal Republican forces, in alliance with Anarchists and Communists, and Nationalist forces led by General Francisco Franco. The Nationalists were also supported by Fascists Italy and Nazi Germany. After nearly 3 years of horrific fighting, the Nationalists emerged victorious and set up a military dictatorship under Franco which would last until 1975. The war took the lives of approximately 231,000 to 2 million soldiers and civilians, including foreign volunteers from Germany, Italy, Portugal, the Soviet Union, France, the British Empire and United States.
