Charles the V ruled over most of Western Europe as the Holy Roman Emperor succeding Maximilian I. He is known for excommunicating Martin Luther for his Protestant views and uniting most of Europe as the King of Spain, King of Italy, and Archduke Austria while still ruling the Holy Roman Empire.
