Description:

-nationalists and liberals didn't like foreign rule (of Hapsburgs and Bourbons since the Hapsburg-Valois Wars)
-managed to convince monarch of Sardinia-Piedmont to grant a constitution
-to appease nationalists, they declared war on Austria
-Austria crushed them
-ruler abdicated in favor of Victor Emmanuel II
-MEANWHILE... Guiseppe Mazzini and Guiseppe Garibaldi tried to make a republic in Rome and forced the pope to flee
-French forces put down those revolts
rural people didn't support revolutions
revolutionaries weren't united
radicals lacked admin. experience
