Athaliah's Usurpation (23 oct. 947 av. J.-C. – 7 janv. 940 av. J.-C.)

Description:

Athaliah was the wife of Joram and the mother of Ahaziah. At one point in the Bible she is called the daughter of Ahab, and in another she is called the daughter of Omri. Given the timing of events the later is most likely, with the first being given as a symbol of how evil she was.

When her son, Ahaziah, died, she seized power and order the slaughter of all the royal family. However, Ahaziah's sister, Jehosheba, took the infant Joash, born earlier that year, and fled.
Joash was hidden in the Temple, under the care of his nurse the Priest, Jehoiada, and his aunt.
When he was seven years old Jehoiada brought him before the army and they crowned him king in the Temple, before the people.
When Athaliah found out she objected, but Jehoiada ordered her death, and the soldiers took her to the palace and there they executed her.
Thus the evil of Athaliah was ended and Joash began to reign as king. He was one of the best kings that ruled in Judah.
