Description:
The Japanese navy and airforce was heavily damaged from previous battles in the pacific. The island were captured by the Americans, however, the strategic value of taking control of the island became controversial. It was useless to the U.S. Army as a staging base and useless to the U.S. Navy as a fleet base. The islands were used as an emergency landing strip for US B-29 bombers.Ajouté au bande de temps:
