The Arrest of Stephen F. Austin (1 janv. 1833 – 31 déc. 1835)

Description:

Stephen F. Austin went to Mexico in 1833 to meet General Santa Anna to present the demand of the Texan Convention including Texas becoming a separate Mexican state from Coahuila. While waiting for months to meet Santa Anna he wrote a letter to the people of Texas suggesting they could go ahead and form the new government for the new Mexican State of Texas. The letter was intercepted by the Mexican government and Stephen F. Austin was arrested and charged with treason. He spent two years in prison in Mexico City in solitary confinement. After returning to Texas in 1835 he was convinced that war was the only solution for an independent Texas.
