Many Native Americans made alliances with other Native groups while some made alliances with the Europeas. The British start fighting against the Native Americans because they were feared being raided. So they [Europeans] attacked first.
Metacom was the name for the leader of the Native American group that was murdered.
It was a long brutal war, this is one of the worst American wars. Very large death total.
