Description:
Cardinal Richelieu was a powerful figure in France during the reign of Louis XIII. He eliminated the military and political strength of the Huguenots all while allowing them to maintain their rights. He hired Intendants to suppress any plots against the king from the nobility. He was also responsible for the Taile which placed a tax on property. Richelieu left many of his ideals into the hands of Louis XIV ruling Cardnial (while he was younger) Mazarin.
