Description:
Petrarch, or Francesco Petrarca, is known as the 'Father of Humanism' because his philosophy helped spark the Renaissance. He was essentially the first true humanist, and was a very devoted classical scholar who loved to write. One of the more famous poems he wrote was called Petrarch's canzoniere ("Petrarch's songbook").
