Petrarch (9 janv. 1304 – 21 juin 1374)
Description:
Petrarch is sometimes called the father of Italian Ren. humanism. He was one of the first intellectuals to characterize the Middle Ages as a period of darkness, and he had an invested belief in Classical literature and secular ideas, which led to him ransacking monastic libraries across Europe. Also, Petrarch firmly believed that Classical Latin manuscripts should be emphasized, hence his hearty appreciation for Cicero.
