Description:
Petrarch is sometimes called the father of Italian Ren. humanism. He was one of the first intellectuals to characterize the Middle Ages as a period of darkness, and he had an invested belief in Classical literature and secular ideas, which led to him ransacking monastic libraries across Europe.
