The Long Expedition (29 janv. 1819 – 4 nov 1821)
Description:
Many Americans were angry because the United States gave up all of its claims to Texas, James Long began an expedition to reclaim Texas with 300 rebels and they captured the deserted Nacogdoches. The group declared Texas as a free Republic and elected Long as president. Long traveled to Galveston Island to ask Lafitte for help, but he refused because they stood no chance against a huge army. The Spanish killed Long's forces in East Texas while he was in Galveston Island. Long returned to New Orleans to recruit more troops and a new plan to invade Texas; They later attempted to capture Goliad, but they were surrounded by the Spanish and he was brought to Mexico City, where he was shot and killed by a guard.
