Romanticism (29 oct. 1800 – 3 févr. 1850)

Description:

The romantic movement came in reaction to the Enlightenment. It featured artwork and literature centered on human emotion, subjectivity, and a love of nature, urging that there was still something special in the world and unique to man. Romantics, "believed in the natural goodness of humans which is hindered by the urban life of civilization. They believed that the savage is noble, childhood is good and the emotions inspired by both beliefs causes the heart to soar. Romantics believed that knowledge is gained through intuition rather than deduction," (ReadWriteThink--The Characteristics of Romanticism). They loved considering the feats of the outcast, or the brave individual.
