Sargon II (1 janv. 722 av. J.-C. – 1 janv. 705 av. J.-C.)

Description:

After seizing power, Sargon II continued his father’s work in expanding and bringing prosperity to the empire. He founded a new capital city in an attempt to solidify his place in history, only to die an embarrassing death in battle against the Egyptians. Due to the belief that death in battle is a curse from the gods, his successors distanced themselves from him (Mark, “Assyria”).

Sargon II’s life is very similar to that of Pharaoh Akhenaten of Egypt. They both sought to entrench themselves in history and were ironically nearly erased from it.
