Cortes Conquers Mexico (30 juin 1519 – 22 août 1521)
Description:
Cortes was able to use resentment of other native tribes against the Aztec tribe to forge alliances. After entering Tenochtitlan, the king Montezuma hesitated to attack, believing Cortes to be a god. The city was easily defeated, while the Aztecs were quickly defeated by superior weapons, and exposed to disease, further increasing death rates. The city of Tenochtitlan became modern day Mexico City, and offered a base as Spanish explorers continued to conquer Mexico.
