Byzantine Empire (1 janv. 330 – 1 janv. 1483)

Description:

The Byzantine Empire stemmed from the Roman Empire and was the result of it shifting east after its collapse and establishing its capital in Constantinople. It moved towards Christianity with the Edict of Milan (which banned persecution of Christians), and it was established as the official language; yet, the empire and its legal system especially were based off the Romans. By the twelfth century, it was ruled by a familial military aristocracy, which controlled the economy. Low economic activity, loss of land, and plague lead to its collapse, marked by the fall of Constantinople in 1453.
