Roman Republic (1 janv. 509 av. J.-C. – 16 janv. 27 av. J.-C.)
Description:
The Roman Republic was made up of many areas from the Meditteranean, Africa, and Europe. Its government consisted of two high-ranking consuls advised by a Senate of elites, known as patricians, and lower-ranking officials, known as tribunes, consisting of plebeians, or lower class individuals. The Republic was characterized by social tension between the patricians and plebeians. The groundwork laid by Julius Caesar to quell these tensions led to the eventual transformation of the Roman Republic into the Roman Empire by Augustus. (2.2)
