Description:
An empire in Western Asia founded by Cyrus the Great. The Empire had a centralized bureaucratic government, with Satraps (Governors) who ruled over local peoples. Cyrus established a sophisticated, widespread road system and postal service. The Persian Empire was very tolerant of other religions, and Cyrus even freed the Jews and allowed them to return to their homeland. (2.2)
