Greco-Persian wars (6 janv. 499 av. J.-C. – 6 mai 449 av. J.-C.)

Description:

The Greco-Persian wars are more commonly called the Persian war. This war lasted from 499 B.C.E to 449-B.C.E It involved the Persian empire and the Greek city-states. Persia, under the rule of Darius the great was expanding throughout Asia and into Europe. He set his eyes on the Greek city-state Athens and planned his first attack. He sent envoys to call for the greeks submission. The Greeks in return killed the envoys and Darius was furious. Athens and Sparta promised an Alliance soon after. Ultimately Greek won the long war and without its victory, they may never have had their rich period of philosophy and cultural endeavor which would, in turn, lay out the cultural foundations of future Western civilizations.
