Georges Méliès films (13 janv. 1896 – 2 déc. 1913)

Description:

Georges Méliès was an influential filmmaker around the late 19th early 20th century making over 500 films from 1896 - 1913 but the thing that was notable about Méliès in particular was how his films were some of the first narrative driven films as before this film had very much been a side show something shown during the interval at an Oprah or as the part of a fair, it was dependently not considered an important art form by any means. however Méliès made film a story telling method on the same level as theater, this was limited however as films at this time were silent so plots were quite basic as next to everything had to be visualized which he compensated for through extravagant costumes and sets making his films look extravagant and otherworldly he also tended to cross genera's with his films as well like with his film a Trip to the Moon which was a fantasy/drama and very rarely made a pure genera film. Méliès was also greatly helped by the progression of technology at the time as when he started of he was working with a self made camera and later on around about 1897 better film cameras had become more available on the open market making the production value of his films higher. all together i believe this makes Méliès one of the most influential filmmakers of all time as he very much set the groundwork for the kind of films we would see from this point on more narrative driven films, which used special effect and stunts to enamor an audience and to legitimize film as a art form.
