Revolutionary War (19 avr. 1775 – 3 sept. 1783)

Description:

A war between Great Britain and its 13 North American colonies. Growing frustrations within the colonies against British rule as a result of harsh taxes to pay off Britain's war debt and lack of representation in Britain's parliament led the colonies to seek independence. The war resulted in the freedom of the United States from British rule, allowing them to form their own government and laws. While the Enlightenment based beliefs that led to this war shaped colonial society, this war negatively impacted the rights Native Americans, as the colonists' victory allowed them to further expand into Native American territories, and did not remedy the injustice of African slavery, which was codified into the nation's legislative documents.
