Battle of Shiloh (6 avr. 1862 – 7 avr. 1862)

Description:

This Battle took place at Pittsburg Landing in southwestern Tenessee. Grant and 42000 Union troops were waiting for General Don Carlos Buell and his reinforcements.

They were taken by surprise on the morning of April 6, 1862, and it turned into a struggle that wounded and killed 13000 Union me, and 10000 Confederate soldiers. Out of every 10 men, 8 had never fought in battle before (Ward, Burns & Burns, 1990, p. 99).
There had been more fatalities than in "all previous American wars combined" ("The U.S. Civil War 1861 - 1865", 1996).
