Atlantic Slave Trade (18 juin 1406 – 18 déc. 1828)

Description:

The Atlantic Slave trade did not have a major impact on the Ivory Coast as it did many other African Coastal regions. While slavery was a normal practice within the country, it did not export slaves so easily. The Ivory Coast was so named for it's mass trading of Ivory. Internal slavery usually took the form of the capture of northern peoples who were then transported to the larger cities of the south. Traders did not want to sell slaves to international merchants as they were used for the obtainment of Ivory.
