Avignon Papacy (8 mai 1309 – 23 nov 1376)
Description:
The period during which the Popes resided in Avignon and were under the influence of the French Monarchy. This time period is also known as Babylonian Captivity. The conflict that arose after the Papacy returned to Rome is what caused the Great Schism, or Western Schism.
