Babylonian Captivity (28 déc. 1308 – 16 mars 1376)
Description:
Due to a conflict between the King of France and the Pope Boniface VIII, the King ordered the papacy to move to Avignon in southern France. The popes became consumed with bureaucratic and financial matters, which lead to a decrease in papal prestige and a subsequent decrease in church authority, as individuals began to rely on direct and personal experiences with worship.
