The Civil War was, as all civil wars are, devastating, but also, as most civil wars are, very important to have been fought. The Civil War was fought over the growing tensions surrounding the question of slavery in the US. The war ended and brought the end of slavery with it, undoing the biggest (but by no means only) part of the Great American Hypocrisy.
