Role in economy:
As soon as Khrushchev seize the power, he was to put more emphasis on consumption in the economy of which an increase in food supply was the most essential aspect.
However, the economy had to face some problems. Technological innovation and the development of new products were slow. More generally there was evident inefficiency in production.
He noticed this, and he elaborated a new plan for economy, on the whole, growth in the 1950s and 1960s was the result of improvements in labor productivity.
There was an administrative reorganization in agricultural sector of Khrushchev era. It was the rapid consolidation of collective farms, the conversion of collective farms into state farms, and the build-up of new state farms in the developing eastern agricultural regions of the Soviet Union.
