The Starving Time (11 sept. 1609 – 3 mars 1610)
Description:
-London Company got charter that expanded their power by giving them rights to more land
-The London Company gave free passage to Virginia to those willing to serve the company for 7 years
-"Great Fleet" containing nine ships and 600 people head to Virginia in spring of 1609
-One ship was lost, one was stuck in Bermuda, those who made it to Virginia faced fevers and were weak upon arrival
-Indians killed livestock, barricaded colonists
-Only 60 of about 500 survived but left on the Bermuda ship in May
-Lord De La Warr's ship discovered the leaving colonists and they agreed to go back to Jamestown
-Stricter rule in Jamestown and the eventual private ownership of land helped the colony expand
