Stamp Act (22 mars 1765 – 18 mars 1766)
Description:
The stamp act was the first direct tax on the American colonists from the British government. The act placed a tax on all paper documents in the colonies. The colonists insisted that the act was unconstitutional, and resorted to armed mobs and violence try and have the act repealed. In the end, the act was repealed, however, Britain issued a Declaratory Act to reaffirm it's authority to pass laws.
