Woodblock Printing in China (1 janv. 700 – 1 janv. 1040)
Description:
Woodblock printing emerged in China during the Tang Dynasty, enabling the mass production of written materials for the first time. Characters were cut into small wood blocks, covered in ink, and then pressed onto paper. The practice then "stimulated the development of a sophisticated paper industry with many different specialized papers created for different purposes"(Asian Art Museum , 2024). During this era, there was a strong emphasis on publishing and spreading religious texts and Confucian classics, as well as agriculture and medicine.
