Secret ballots (1 sept. 1888 – 1 juin 1950)
Description:
the first secret ballots were used in Massachusetts in 1888. By 1892 when the Populist Party was founded over 75% of congressional races used a secret ballot. The secret ballots (known at the time as Australian ballots due to their success in the country) were implemented so there couldn't be inference from the government in elections. the last state to follow would be South Carolina in 1950.
