5. The Women's March on Versailles (5 oct. 1789 – 6 oct. 1789)

Description:

Thousands of Parisian women, fed up with high bread prices and food shortages, marched to the royal palace at Versailles. They demanded bread and insisted that the royal family return to Paris. The crowd broke into the palace, and the King and Queen, Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette, were forced to move to Paris, where they would be under the watchful eye of the people. This event showed the increasing power of the people over the monarchy.
