- Women gained the right to vote in 1920, though they were still underrepresented in politics and could not run for office
- Flappers emerged that wore exposed clothing, put on makeup, and flaunted their bodies
- Flappers would engage in scandalous behaviors such as sex before marriage or smoking in public
- Rural women were more restricted and saw urban life as evil, setting up the Anti-Flirt League in protest
