The Fair Deal (1945) and Great Society (1960s) eras focused on expanding the federal government's role in addressing social issues and promoting economic fairness. Under President Truman's Fair Deal, the government aimed to improve housing, healthcare, and education, while also raising the minimum wage and expanding Social Security. President Johnson’s Great Society built on these efforts, with landmark legislation that included Medicare, Medicaid, the Civil Rights Act, and the Voting Rights Act, as well as significant investments in education and urban development. Both initiatives sought to reduce poverty and inequality, enhance civil rights, and expand access to essential services.
