The Prussian Campaign (12 août 1914 – 17 sept. 1914)
Description:
The war began with a Russian push into Eastern Prussia, with the 1st and 2nd Armies both pushing toward Kongisberg. Both were cut off during the Battle of the Tannenburg, when the German 2nd and 3rd Armies intercepted the Russian 1st. Colonel General von Bülow showed amazing cunning when he ignored the far more linear and out of touch commands of Berlin in order to cut off the Russians before their armies could merge. In so doing, he delivered a crushing blow to the Russian army that forced a full retreat from Prussia. As this general retreat began, the German 8th Army pushed south into Poland as the forces of von Bülow prepared to push up the Baltic coast.
