Wampanoags were asked to submit to english rule, refused and there were high tensions
Metacom gained support of other tribes and raided/attacked white settlments
1675-76
Settlers won, but brutal fighting and lots of casualities
¼ of remaining Indian population died
Some sold into slavery in west idies
Food shortages, disease
Metacom ran short of suppies- ambushed and killed 1676
