Description:
- **rise of radicalism** in the Reichstag —> radical left and radical right can both benefit from the Weimar Constitution to have their views represented in the Reichstag (anyone with 60,000 thousand votes can be in the Reichstag)
- radical left: **KPD** and USPD they want to overthrow the Weimar system and instead **create one based on the soviet model**
- radical right: **DNVP** and **NSDAP** (after 1920) they are mostly **monarchists**
- moderate parties had 77% of the seats in the national assembly —> by the time of the first Reichstag elections, this falls to just 45% (1920 elections based on new constitution)
- **rise in political violence:**
- soon after the armistice, **Freidkorps**, units are organised as a **paramilitary force based on former soldiers**
