Major Issues: Received backlash after Compromise of 1850, and increased sectional tensions after Uncle Tom’s Cabin was published.-

Contributions to Civil War: Mainly contributes to the Civil War by what the Compromise of 1850 had brought to the table. Fillmore’s strict enforcement of the Fugitive Slave Act, and tensions over slavery with the new land after the Mexican-American war would significantly contribute.
