Description:

In 1956, the government granted the Yavapai tribe 1320 acres of land to add to the existing 75 acres of reservation land. This expansion was a crucial moment for the Yavapai people as they had faced displacement and land loss due to settler colonization and different government policies. The original 75 acres of reservation land was not enough to support the tribe's cultural and community needs. The land added in 1956 continues to play an important role in supporting the community's cultural identities and development efforts. This land is shared with the Tonto Apache tribe today.
