Second Gulf War (20 mars 2003 – 18 déc. 2011)

Description:

The United States invades Iraq with the help of the UK, Australia, and Poland, first with a bombing campaign, followed by a ground troop invasion which results in the overthrowing of the Ba'ath regime as well as the capture, trial, and execution of Saddam. The invasion by US troops was instigated by Bush's claim that the country was harboring weapons of mass destruction, however, none were found.

The fall of Hussein's regime led to a civil war between the country's Shia majority and Sunni minority, and subsequent power struggle, prompting the US to increase the surge of troops deployed.
