Iraqi Revolt of 1920 (1 mai 1920 – 30 oct. 1920)
Description:
In response to British land ownership and taxes, Mesopotamians in Baghdad with officers from the old Ottoman army begin to protest and revolt. The goal was to receive independence from British rule. Both the Shia and Sunni sects of Islam, two opposing Islamic ideologies, cooperated against the British regime.
While seeing initial success, the British managed to suppress the demonstrations and maintain control. The conflict saw the death of anywhere from 2,000 to 10,000 Mesopotamians and around 1,000 British.
