What it was: During the Cultural Revolution, schools were closed, and cultural youth were denigrated. Aggressively promoted Mao's leftist ideology of the working class leading everything. A large number of intellectuals were dragged into the streets to denigrate them, and many writers committed suicide when they could not stand the pressure.
