Third Arab-Israeli War
(Six-Day War) (5 juin 1967 – 11 juin 1967)
Description:
Egypt, again, issues the closing of the Straits of Tiran. In response, Israeli forces call airstrikes on Egypt, destroying a majority of its aircraft, and invading with ground troops shortly after. Jordan joins in Egypt's defense, followed by Syria. The conflict lasts roughly 6 days, resulting in 15,000 Arab fatalities, fewer than 1,000 Israeli casualties, 15 United Nations peacekeeper fatalities, and 34 United States casualties (following an Israeli airstrike on a US Navy technical research ship).
At the time a ceasefire is signed, Israel gained control of the Golan Heights from Syria, the West Bank and East Jerusalem from Jordan, and the Sinai Peninsula and Gaza Strip from Egypt.
