Description:
Headed by Harry Hopkins, the WPA set out to create as many jobs as possible as fast as possible and between 1935 and 1943 it:
-Spent $11 billion to give jobs to more than 8 million workers
-Built 850 airports
-Constructed or repaired 651,000 miles of roads and streets
-Put up more than 125,000 public buildings
-Created sewing groups of women that created 300 million garments for the needy
-Gave workers a sense of hope and purpose
