Description:
In the 1800's, Russians wanted access to Persian Gulf and the British wanted to keep their trade route to India.
The Qajars needed money, so they made deals with both countries.
in the early 1900's, Both the British and Russians had control of banks, mining, and other Iranian industries.
The Qajar shahs grew wealthy due to their deals with foreign countries, but the Iranian economy declined and the Iranian people grew angry.
In response, the Shah at the time created a constitution.
Thus, Iran’s first elected legislature, the Majles, was formed.
