Tanzimat Reforms (3 nov 1839 – 22 nov 1876)
Description:
The Tanzimat Reforms were a series of reforms in the Ottoman Empire aimed at centralizing power, restructuring the economy, and granting equal rights to non-Muslim citizens. The Tanzimat reforms fit into the context of imperialism as they were partly a response to increasing pressure from European powers, who were seeking to exert influence over the weakening Ottoman Empire. By modernizing its institutions, the empire attempted to retain control and prevent further territorial loss due to Western imperial ambitions.
